Anakeesta’s Bear-Varian Festival Brings Bavarian Flavors to Gatlinburg

Anakeesta has turned its Gatlinburg mountaintop into a Bavarian-inspired fall gathering, pairing Smoky Mountain views with seasonal food, regional beer and cider, live music and playful entertainment through Nov. 1.

The 2026 Bear-Varian Fall Festival began Aug. 28 and runs during Anakeesta’s regular operating hours. It is designed as an overlay to a normal park visit rather than a separate after-hours event, so guests can combine the festival with attractions including AnaVista Tower, the Treetop Skywalk, mountain coasters and the Dueling Zipline.

For visitors 21 and older, a $22.99 Beer Tasting Card includes six 8-ounce pours and a souvenir lanyard. The announced lineup spans 10 regional breweries and cideries, including Blackhorse, Xul, Highland, TailGate, Von Trapp, Peaceful Side, Hi-Wire, Edmund’s Oast, Gypsy Circus and Cide Chicks.

The food menu reaches beyond pretzels. Seasonal choices include smoked pork shank with German potato salad, pork schnitzel with caper butter and braised red cabbage, an onion-and-cabbage flatbread, a chicken schnitzel sandwich with Brussels sprouts, apple pastries and Bavarian crepes. A jumbo pretzel with warm beer cheese remains the easiest shareable option.

Bear-Varian is not limited to adult tastings. Anakeesta describes the event as family-friendly, with fall decorations, games and live entertainment around the mountain. The lineup includes the Pretzel-Tones’ modern polka, classic-rock-themed Undead Heads, the 1960s-inspired Vampirettes, interactive Bear-Varian Bonanza games and a roaming stilt walker named Hans.

The festival’s long run allows the scenery to change with the season. Early visits offer late-summer green, while October dates may line up with expanding fall color across the surrounding ridges.

General admission is required, and the tasting card is an optional add-on rather than an event ticket. Because entertainment schedules and park hours vary by date, visitors should review Anakeesta’s calendar before choosing an arrival time.
