Cades Cove Vehicle-Free Wednesdays continue through September 30

Visitors looking to experience Cades Cove without vehicle traffic still have several opportunities remaining this season, with Vehicle-Free Wednesdays continuing through September 30.

Every Wednesday during the seasonal program, the 11-mile Cades Cove Loop Road is closed to motor vehicles and reserved for pedestrians and cyclists. The 2026 schedule runs from May 6 through September 30.

The weekly closure gives cyclists and pedestrians an opportunity to explore one of the most popular areas of Great Smoky Mountains National Park without regular vehicle traffic on the loop.

The schedule is also important for visitors planning to tour Cades Cove by car. Anyone hoping to drive the Loop Road should plan their visit for another day of the week while Vehicle-Free Wednesdays remain in effect.

As with other operations inside Great Smoky Mountains National Park, weather, emergencies or other conditions could affect access on an individual Wednesday. Visitors should check current National Park Service alerts before traveling to Cades Cove.

Vehicle-Free Wednesdays are scheduled to continue each week through September 30.
