Boyds Creek Highway Bridge Lane Closure Begins Sept. 8

Drivers using Boyds Creek Highway should prepare for daytime delays beginning Tuesday, Sept. 8, when waterline installation will close one lane on the bridge over the Little Pigeon River near Winfield Dunn Parkway.

The eastbound lane will be closed daily from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The bridge is just east of Winfield Dunn Parkway, also known as Highway 66, placing the work near one of Sevierville’s busiest approaches.

Traffic will continue through the area rather than being fully detoured, but the City of Sevierville expects delays, especially during heavier travel periods. Drivers should watch for changing traffic patterns, stopped or slow-moving vehicles, workers and construction equipment.

The waterline work is expected to take approximately three weeks if weather and other conditions cooperate. Because the city described the schedule as conditional, drivers should not assume the lane will return to normal on a fixed date without checking for an updated advisory.

Motorists trying to avoid the bridge can consider Old Knoxville Highway between West Main Street and Boyds Creek Highway, with Gists Creek Road providing another connection. Those routes may also become busier as regular commuters adjust to the work zone.

The advisory is particularly relevant for people traveling between the Boyds Creek community, Sevierville and the Highway 66 tourism corridor. Morning and afternoon traffic could be affected even though the closure is limited to one direction and daylight work hours.

Drivers who must use the bridge should leave extra time and avoid last-minute lane changes near the work area. The city’s public-information page will carry any schedule revisions, weather delays or notice that normal traffic patterns have resumed.
