GSMNP Seeks Public Input On Foothills Parkway Section 8D

Conversation is underway to complete another section of Foothills Parkway, linking Wears Valley to the Spur

October 20, 2023
The Great Smoky Mountains National Park (GSMNP) has recently announced its intention to seek public input on the development of Section 8D of the Foothills Parkway. Recognizing the value of engaging with the community, the park authorities aim to ensure that this project reflects the interests and aspirations of the visitors and residents alike.

Section 8D of the Foothills Parkway holds significant potential in enhancing the overall park experience while conserving and protecting the park's natural beauty. Section 8D is proposed to begin where Foothills Parkway West ends in Wears Valley and connects to the spur near Pigeon Forge city limits. The construction of this section will have no impact within established park boundaries.

By soliciting public input, GSMNP seeks to gauge the preferences, concerns, and ideas of those who visit, live near, or have a vested interest in the park. These insights will play a crucial role in shaping the development plans, ensuring a balanced and sustainable approach that preserves the area's natural heritage while providing an enjoyable and accessible experience for all.

Not only does this public input process allow individuals to voice their opinions, but it also encourages a sense of ownership and collaboration among those who care about the future of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The park authorities believe that by incorporating the values and feedback of the public, they can make well-informed decisions that resonate with the park's diverse range of visitors.

As one of the most biodiverse regions in North America, the GSMNP deserves our careful consideration and thoughtful planning. The park's management team recognizes the importance of balancing the development of Section 8D with the need to maintain the untouched beauty of the surrounding landscape. This endeavor seeks to strike the right balance, creating an experience that is both fulfilling for visitors and respectful of the cherished natural environment.
